Mining ERT / ESO & Fire Service Training

Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue

This qualification replaces Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue. Qualification title amended to Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue to reflect broader scope of amended qualification.

Packaging rules amended to better reflect industry needs. Core/elective units amended to reflect skills required by emergency response and rescue team members in the resources and infrastructure industries.

Provide advanced first aid, Respond to work site incidents and Apply risk management processes added to core units. Native and imported core and elective units updated to current equivalent versions.

Supersedes and is equivalent to Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue.

This qualification reflects the role of response and rescue team members who work in a mine site or a construction site, and perform tasks involving a broad range of skilled applications applied in a wide variety of contexts. People performing these roles may be required to exercise some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment and services and deal with contingencies.

The course is delivered by training professionals who are seasoned and experienced emergency services personnel the program can be tailored to meet your specific workplace requirements.

Total number of units = 14 , consisting of 5 core units  plus 9 elective units:

  • at least one (1) must be chosen from Group A
  • at least five (5) must be chosen from Group B, of which at least two (2) must be coded RIIERR
  • at least one (1) must be chosen from Group C

Up to two (2) may be chosen from the electives listed below, elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

Core Units:
The following core units are completed by all participants:

  • Provide advanced first aid
  • Communicate in the workplace
  • Respond to work site incidents
  • Apply risk management processes
  • Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedure

Group A

  • Participate in a rescue operation
  • Maintain and monitor site quality standards

Group B

  • Develop incident containment tactics
  • Provide emergency care
  • Manage injuries at emergency incident
  • Coordinate search and rescue operations
  • Operate breathing apparatus open circuit
  • Prevent injury
  • Render hazardous materials incidents safe
  • Identify, detect and monitor hazardous materials at an incident
  • Participate in rescue operation
  • Undertake road crash rescue
  • Undertake confined space rescue
  • Undertake land search rescue
  • Undertake vertical rescue
  • Conduct fire team operations
  • Apply initial response first aid
  • Respond to local emergencies and incidents
  • Operate in self-contained regenerative oxygen breathing apparatus
  • Control emergencies and critical situations Group C
    • Prepare equipment for emergency response
    • Prepare, maintain and test response equipment

  • Prepare, maintain and test response equipment and its Prerequisite unit(s)  – Prevent injury
  • Operate breathing apparatus open circuit and its Prerequisite unit(s)  – revent injury
  • Render hazardous materials incidents safe and its Prerequisite unit(s) – Operate breathing apparatus open circuit and
  • Identify, detect and monitor hazardous materials at an incident and its Prerequisite unit(s) – Operate breathing apparatus open circuit
  • Participate in a rescue operation and its Prerequisite unit(s)  – Provide first aid
  • Undertake road crash rescueand its Prerequisite unit(s) – Provide first aid and Participate in a rescue operation
  • Undertake confined space rescue and its Prerequisite unit(s)  – Identify, detect and monitor hazardous materials at an incident and Participate in a rescue operation
  • Undertake land search and its Prerequisite unit(s) – Prevent injury
  • Undertake vertical rescue and its Prerequisite unit(s)  – Participate in a rescue operation

Certificate IV in Emergency Response Coordination (Mining Supervision)

Qualification Description – This qualification reflects the role of emergency response and rescue team leaders or coordinators working in the resources and infrastructure industries, who perform tasks involving a broad range of skilled applications in a wide variety of contexts, which involve application of discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures

Core Units
  1. Provide advanced first aid
  2. Show leadership in the workplace
  3. Lead rescue teams
  4. Apply site risk management system
Electives
  1. Manage and evaluate emergency management exercises
  2. Protect and preserve incident scene
  3. Operate communications systems and equipment
  4. Conduct briefings and debriefings
  5. Control emergencies and critical situations
  6. Provide support for rescue operations
